Transport

Every gap between places in your itinerary is a transport leg — and Rooutie lets you add real detail to every single one. Auto-routed modes draw the actual path on the map. Manual modes let you log the details your own way. All transport appears in your itinerary and timeline.

Adding Transport

Click the + Add button in any day, then select Add Transport. The transport modal opens with a mode selector. Choose your mode and Rooutie handles the rest.

Auto-Routed Modes

These modes fetch the actual route — real roads, real trails, real transit — and draw the polyline on your map. You get accurate distance, time, and (for active modes) elevation data.
ModeWhat you get
DriveRoad routing, distance, estimated drive time
WalkPedestrian routing with elevation data where available
HikeTrail and off-road routing with full elevation profile, steepness, and surface type
BikeCycling routing with elevation profile, steepness, and surface type
Public TransitCity-to-city transit routing combining buses, metro, and train
How to use:
  1. Enter your origin and destination (search by city name or place name).
  2. Click Get Route.
  3. The route appears on the map as a coloured polyline. Review the distance and estimated time.
  4. Click Save to add it to your itinerary.

Waypoints (Drive, Walk, Hike, Bike)

Need to route through a specific point? Add waypoints:
  • Click Add Waypoint to insert an intermediate stop.
  • Reorder waypoints by drag and drop.
  • Click a point on the map to set a waypoint location directly on the map.
  • The route recalculates automatically every time a waypoint changes.
This is perfect for scenic drives where you want to stop at a viewpoint, or hikes with a detour to a summit.

Manual Modes

For transport where auto-routing doesn’t apply (trains, ferries, taxis), enter the details yourself:
ModeTypical use

What you can log:
  • Origin and destination names
  • Duration (hours and minutes)
  • Distance (km)
  • Notes (e.g., “platform 3”, “pre-book via Trenitalia”)
  • Cost
These steps show in your itinerary timeline and Calendar view with the correct duration, but without a map polyline.
For flights, use the dedicated Add Flight option — it has a full flight editor with airport search, flight number lookup, seat tracking, and more. See Flights.

On the Map

After saving any auto-routed transport:
  • The polyline is drawn along the real road, path, or trail.
  • The transport step in the itinerary is linked to the polyline — click the step to highlight the route.
  • For hike and bike routes, the Elevation button appears on the map. Click it to open the elevation profile. Hover the chart to see a dot move along the route in real time. See Elevation Profiles.

Editing Transport

Click the on any transport step card. The transport editor re-opens with the existing route pre-filled. Change the mode, adjust waypoints, update the manual details, or delete the step.
