Creating a Trip

Every great trip starts with an idea. Rooutie gives you four ways to turn that idea into a real itinerary — depending on how much you already know and how you like to plan.

1. Generate with AI

The fastest way to get a complete itinerary. You describe what you want, the AI plans it. How it works:
  1. Click “Create Trip” and select “Create with AI”.
  2. The AI Travel Planner opens with a chat interface.
  3. Tell it what you’re after: destination, length, vibe, who’s traveling, budget. Use your own words — the more detail, the better.
  4. The AI asks a few quick questions about your travel style:
    • Who’s traveling? (Family, Couple, Solo, Friends)
    • Budget? (Budget, Mid-range, Luxury)
    • Interests? (Art & Culture, History, Nature, Nightlife, Shopping, Adventure, Relaxation, Photography, Hidden Gems…)
    • Food preferences? (Vegan, Street Food, Fine Dining, Local Cuisine, Cafes…)
  5. Your itinerary builds in real time — you can watch each day and step appear as the AI generates it.
  6. Chat back to refine: “Can you swap Day 3 for something less touristy?” or “Add a day trip from Kyoto.”
  7. When you’re happy, click “Turn into trip” and the itinerary opens in the full editor.
Pro tip: The AI chat session is saved. You can come back to it from the Trip Chats tab in My Trips and keep refining — even after the trip is created.

2. Start from Scratch

You know what you want and you want to build it yourself. Start with a blank canvas.
  1. Click “Create Trip” and select “Start from Scratch”.
  2. Set your destination and dates.
  3. Add days and build each one using the + Add button — search for places, paste URLs, add transport, or ask the AI for suggestions within individual days.
Pro tip: In “Less Info” mode, drag pins directly from the map into your day timeline. It’s the fastest way to build a day from scratch when you know the area.

3. Generate from Notes

You’ve got a messy pile of ideas. Emails from friends, a WhatsApp thread, a bookmarked blog post, a list of places you’ve been meaning to visit. Rooutie turns all of it into a structured plan.
  1. Click “Create Trip” and select “Paste Notes”.
  2. Paste anything — raw notes, emails, copied messages, bullet points.
  3. Rooutie’s AI organises them into days and steps, matching locations and filling in context.
Everything is fully editable afterwards. The AI gives you a starting point; you decide where things go from there.
Pro tip: This works best for trips you’ve been loosely planning for a while and just need to commit to paper. Dump everything you know — the AI is very good at making sense of chaos.

4. Generate from a URL

Found an amazing travel blog post, a magazine itinerary, or a travel guide online? Don’t recreate it manually — let Rooutie extract it for you.
  1. Click “Create Trip” and select “Generate from URL”.
  2. Paste the link to any travel article or guide.
  3. Rooutie reads the page and pulls out all the locations, activities, and recommendations — turning them into a structured itinerary.
The result is a ready-to-edit trip based on the article. Add your own stops, adjust the days, and personalise it to fit your style.
Pro tip: After importing, open the map and use the “Show Picks” filter to find nearby restaurants, hotels, and attractions the article didn’t mention — then drag the ones you want straight into your plan.

Adding Individual Steps Inside Any Trip

Once your trip exists, use the + Add button on any day to add more content. Every add option is available from inside the editor:
